TikTok, Shorts or Reels: which to pick
October 25, 2026
The short answer: if you have the resources, run all three, because one video can go out everywhere. If you have to pick one platform, look at your audience and where you send people.
TikTok
- Feed. A new video is shown straight away to people who don't follow you. Good for new channels with no audience.
- What lands. Lively delivery, trends, fast edits, humour, stories.
- Link. In the profile; whether it's clickable depends on the account type.
YouTube Shorts
- Feed. Shorts live longer: a video can keep collecting views for weeks, including through YouTube search.
- What lands. Useful breakdowns, answers to questions, clips from long videos and podcasts.
- Link. In the channel header. A Short can be linked to a long video on the channel.
Instagram Reels
- Feed. Reels are shown to followers and to new audiences. Saves and shares to DMs matter.
- What lands. Aesthetics, personal brand, expert tips, before and after.
- Link. In the profile, and you can add several links.
How to choose
- No audience and you need to test a topic fast: start with TikTok.
- You have long videos, streams, podcasts: Shorts, where clips from them keep working for a long time.
- Your product is about lifestyle, beauty or personal brand: Reels.
- Link clicks are what matter: compare the platforms in a test and count clicks. Views come second.
Why running all three is better
One source video can go out on three platforms, but each version should be its own: a different hook, subtitles fitted to the platform's format, no watermarks from other apps. After a week you see where the topic lands better and can move more posts there.
That's how Traffic Howl auto-posting works: versions for each platform, scheduled posts and a click report for each of them.
